Much like Storm Claudia swept through the northwest the prior day, City overwhelmed Manchester United aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a emphatic three-nil win for Andrée Jeglertz’s side due to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a result that truly announced their title credentials as they strengthened their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Back-to-Back Losses for Manchester United

This result represented successive league losses for Skinner's side for the initial occasion since May 2024, putting them a significant margin off the table toppers with their title hopes hanging by a thread.

The Red Devils' capacity to manage domestic and continental football with a limited team has been a frequently analyzed issue since they qualified for the Champions League. Former City player Park came closest, striking the upright, but the visitors were offensively poor and did not manage to record a solitary shot on target.

The hosts, meanwhile, could have extended their lead when a delightful Miedema long ball sent Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it mattered little to the winning team. Previously unable to overcome any side who placed above them the previous campaign, Jeglertz’s side now have successes against the Gunners and United to position them in a commanding standing after nine games.
