Heartbroken HK Locals Stunned as Massive Inferno Engulfs Apartment Buildings

"Moving near the area, the temperature rises and you can feel it, with the haze being very dense."

Young scholar Thomas Liu was among the many residents gathered at the site of a tragic fire that ravaged large portions of the eight-block residential estate in the region's Tai Po area.

At least 36 individuals have died in yesterday's catastrophic blaze to date, with hundreds still unaccounted for, indicating that this number will possibly increase.

"We're facing a catastrophe," the student commented about the blaze, mentioning that he had witnessed a victim being taken away from the scene.

Over a 1,000 other residents were required to vacate the estate as the flames expanded, with several heading to temporary centers that have been set up to shelter them.

The fire is gradually being managed, but authorities state they cannot determine when it will be completely eliminated.

Fire could be observed issuing from specific homes as numerous people observed in silence.

"I feel devastated. The building contains so many friends and community members. I cannot comprehend what is occurring now. See, all the homes are just on fire. I cannot determine what to achieve. I pray the government can support us to find stability after this."

One woman explained that her friends live inside the building and she was staying to discover if they were able to escape.

A long-term resident, who has lived in the second building of the Wang Fuk Court for more than four decades annums, recalled perceiving "a tremendous explosion" and observing flames ignite in a adjacent building.

"I quickly went inside to gather my belongings," the elderly inhabitant remarked.

"I am uncertain how I personally at this moment. I'm just considering about where I'm going to rest tonight because I probably won't be able to go back home."

Although the source of the inferno that consumed the numerous tall structures is still unknown, the fire are believed to have quickly advanced through the temporary structures that enveloped the structures, which were undergoing renovations.

Several residents have demonstrated frustration that such a massive blaze could have occurred and challenged the response.

"During there's a wildfire, they will utilize helicopters and dispense water bombs, but why is there not any response and how can they permit further buildings burning?" inquired another inhabitant of Wang Fuk Court.

"Our neighborhood is so near to the emergency response center and we thought the blaze could be controlled soon, but currently the flames has advanced. I'm so disheartened," she continued.

The woman noted that she had been given little guidance from the government on where to find support.

Several local inhabitants had provided necessities to the impacted residents - including dozens of coverings and thermal aids.

During interviews about their sentiments regarding the tragedy, locals stated that "the government is ineffective" and that they were "profoundly distraught".

"We don't want to experience any additional fatalities," said an individual.

An elderly woman who dwells in a unit within the damaged blocks stated she was not at home when the fire started but that she is concerned about her apartment because it is without coverage.

"I'm profoundly troubled that I have no home to return to now," she added.
